Does GOPMUSIC work only with Republican campaigns?
On political work, yes. There are no restrictions on work for corporate/industrial music, original theme music and/or songs, station promo music packages and jingle clients.
If an original piece of music is commissioned, who owns it?
GOPMUSIC does not "sell" music, but licenses usage. Music and lyrics created by Demos Chrissos are not considered "work work made for hire." All rights, including copyright are owned by the composer.
Do you offer exclusivity on commissioned music?
A client who commissions a piece of original music is given exclusivity over the use of that music until the end of the political cycle or the candidate drops out of the race. After either of these scenarios, the music is put into the general music library and offered for reuse to other clients.
What is the standard usage granted in a GOPMUSIC reuse license?
Single spot, single use, statewide usage. Additiional reuse fees are added for each state in which a particular spot airs. Regional and national "package" rates are negotiable.
How do you figure out the price for use of an original piece of music?
All music from the exisiting GOPMUSIC library is licensed. This fee is based on the client's usage and similar to the fee structure used by photographers who create an original photo, then collect a license fee for the use of prints. Each separate use (i.e.: television/radio spot incorporating the music) is considered a separate fee.
Is Demos Chrissos available for non-music work?
Absolutely! Creative and production services including concept/copy, writing and producing are available. Please call for rates.
Is the music created using "live" musicians or sampled sounds?
Sampled sounds (obviously, singers are the real deal). Due to the typical nature of most political campaigns that are wired for quick turn-around and last minute changes, the majority of today's political post-scores rely on the use of sampled instruments. GOPMUSIC uses an extensive library of sounds including the complete Vienna Symphonic Library for orchestral music and thousands of traditional and exotic instruments, sound effects and custom audio effects. These sounds work in tandem with GigaStudio, the sampler chosen by a number of contemporary Hollywood composers for feature and television scoring due to its pristine sound quality and realism.
What does the composer need to begin scoring?
A QuickTime file of the video to be scored.
Short of composing new music, what other reuse options do you offer?
Option #1: REUSE - simply using existing music "as is" from GOPMUSIC's extensive original music library;
Option #2: ADJUSTMENT - digitally editing a mixed track or combining multiple mixed tracks of original music to more closely sync with picture and mood shifts and/or going back to the original sequencing tracks, adjusting tempos and remixing tracks to sync to picture; and,
Option #3: ADJUSTMENT WITH NEW MUSIC - Same as option #2 but composing necessary new musical transitions to bridge problematic sync sections.
How is music from the library distributed?
Currently, music is made available via custom CDs. Each CD contains a variety of thematic styles (positive, negative, long format, elements/sfx for sound design, etc.) . Some CDs come with cuts that have been divided into music "splits" which contain segments of a larger piece of music with expanded "edit handles" on each end to allow a video editor more flexibility when positioning music to picture. We are exploring other means of making music available "online."
What other original music services are available?
Jingles, theme songs, station/show IDs and bumpers and multimedia/corporate music.
